our hotel in penang was very cozy, and had this unique feel unlike any hotel ive stayed in before. it had a very personal touch, almost like you were staying in someones home. it was also in the heart of the historic georgetown districts, so we were able to walk pretty much everywhere we wanted to go.

first night out and about in penang. stumbled on this outdoor event with food and free entertainment so we had dinner there

these guys whipped up made to order pad thai, really good flavor

there was a show going on, and as i was walking around i hear on the mic "hi my name is juice, im from california..." this guy gravitates towards microphones man. im sure the cute host had nothing to do with it either

free entertainment. oh u know... just a guy KISSING A KING COBRA!!! this show was nuts man, this guys was so good! i thought this stuff was only from cartoons, didnt know people did it in real life!

pad thai didnt fill us up, so we hit up one of penangs many crazy, gigantic food courts. this was cf food court, a crap load of old folks eating, drinking, and watching some weird variety show in the middle of the night

exploring georgetown, it was HOT man

exploring the ports at low tide, you can see how they created the supports... buckets and cement!

rented bikes to efficiently visit all of georgetowns famous street art spread throughout the town. really neat how they incorporate so many 3d elements into the murals

map of the street art locations, some were easy to find and some were tough

much needed ice cream break after biking all over georgetown in killer heat/humidity

dinner at red garden food court

food galore!

while juice and chris got massages, aaron and i went on a tour of the blue mansion, which has won many awards and is featured in many films

learning about how principles of feng shui were incorporated into the mansion design

also visited the main mosque in georgetown, kapitan keling

had to rock skirts since we were both wearing shorts

only muslims allowed into the main hall of the mosque

jumped on a train from penang and stopped for a night in ipoh, which was half way between penang and kl. the place we stayed the night in ipoh was definitely everyones favorite of the trip. the contrast between the outside and inside was very surprising
check out the checkin area

deteriorating walls overgrown with vines

but once we got to our room, wow! totally trendy and modern!

we had fun just hanging out in this hotel

view from our balcony

for dinner we ate at lou wongs for ipohs signature dish... boiled chicken with bean sprouts

mmmmmm

sampling pastries at the numerous bakeries

juice trying to find a bargain on a pomelo...

spent the rest of the night at an awesome bar into the wee hours, crashed out and jumped back on the train to kl. spend our last day in kl exploring little india

these things were interesting, almost like hawaiian leis

interesting find in one of the shops... bottled cow urine. i should have grabbed some bottles to bring home as souvenirs

so this is how they cook tandori chicken, interesting

last group pic after our last meal in kl
