first place we visited was washington park, where we explored the international rose test gargen, childrens museum, japanese garden, and the pittock mansion

our first taste of portlands food. this dude knew his sausages, he makes these himself and they were so good!

plenty to do in the portland childrens museum, it was very much like pretend city in irvine with a bunch of areas that have been miniaturized for kids. aiden and ava spent most of the time in this grocery

shopper, cashier, and help bagging groceries from their new friend

the portland japanese garden is one of the largest traditional gardens outside japan

great view of downtown portland from the pittock mansion

the screen door is the most popular brunch spot in portland. chicken and waffles, shrimp and grits, and pecan praline bacon... delicious!!!

we made the 1.5 hour drive out to the oregon coast with nancis cousin lena and her 3 kids. definitely nothing like this in california... forests leading straight into the beaches, plenty of hiking trails, and awesome rock formations. best of all, this is where they filmed one of my favorite childhood movies... the goonies!!!
ecola state beach park

aiden checking out the view with his cousins

spent some time playing at indian beach

cannon beach, haystack rock is awesome!

digging for sand crabs

cannon beach hardware and public house, an interesting combination of brewery, restaurant, and hardware store

ice cream at the picnic basket before driving back to portland

pine state bisccuits may have been my favorite place we ate at

the reggie deluxe... fried chicken, bacon, cheese, and fried egg on a fresh baked biscuit... smothered in gravy... #GLORIOUS!!!

gravy kisses for mommy

we were lucky enough to get a private tour of the nike world headquarters by nanci's friend francis and his adorable kiddos, thanks francis!!!

the main building was like a museum, with tons of displays and history about the company

the original waffle iron used to make the sole of prototype nike shoes

the first shoe made

the kids have been really liking making peace signs for photos

free smoothies on fridays... only catch is you have to manually blend your drinks with these blender bikes!

10 barrel brewery, awesome beer!

our good friend from la drove 3 hours from her new home in roseburg to hang out with us on her birthday, happy birthday hb!!!

this crazy thing was part car, part bike, part beer bar! everyone has pedals and pedals together to move it while the driver up front steers it.

rogue distillery... sooooo GOOD!

birthday drinks!

we of course had to visit multnomah falls

the kids miss their auntie hb

strolled through waterfront park on our way to the portland saturday market

lots of things for sale at the saturday market that are unique to portland

met nancis relatives at deschutes brewery for more awesome beer (and food)

powells world of books is insanely huge, the kids can spend a whole day here

voodoo donuts had a crazy line, and everyone told us blue star donuts was better so we stopped by. tried the blueberry bourbon and basil donut and the buttermilk old fashioned... some of the best donuts ive had!

tried a korean pork shoulder sandwich at lardo, so good!

walked around the lan su chinese garden

nancis cousins took an extra day off to take us out on the columbia river on their boat. the kids had a blast playing in the river

a few night shots of the portland theater and the white stag block
