What's In My Bag

people always ask what kind of camera i use. havent posted anything in a while, so i thought i would make a quick post to share what gear im currently using...

canno 5d mark iii - this is currently my only camera body. for years i used the original canon 5d, really loved that camera and it worked great. my main problem with the camera was the lack of focus points. i never upgraded to the 5d mark ii because it had the same focusing system. the 5d mark iii has a completely new focusing system with a TON of focus points. i can now get action shots i could never get before because the focusing is so awesome. there are tons of other upgrades on this camera, but the one that is most important to me is the focusing system. this bad boy is NOT cheap, but luckily my mommy loves me and was feeling extra generous one year and split it with me... otherwise i dont think i would have ever bought this camera. i still highly recommend the original canon 5d for anyone looking for the cheapest way to get into full frame photography.

canon 14mm f2.8L ii - i really like the look of extreme wide angle photos, and this 14mm lens is awesome. produces some wild wide angle effects, yet it is not a fisheye lens. i use this lens a lot on landscapes, as well as interior and exterior architecture. prior to this i used the really great, and inexpensive (as far as canon L lenses go) canon 17-40 f4L.

canon 35mm f1.4L - this is my main walkaround lens and stays on my camera 90% of the time. if i go out and can only take 1 lens this is it. its really versatile, i can get up close and get a head and shoulders shot of a single person, or i can back up a few feet and get a group of 5 people, all pretty easily. prior to this, my main walkaround lens was a canon 24-70 f2.8L.

canon 85mm f1.2L - this lens i mainly use for portraits. with an f1.2 aperture, it creates awesome looking, dream like portraits. it does focus really slow, but when it locks on its worth it!

canon 135mm f2L - i just bought this lens a few weeks ago. i dont really like shooting with longer lenses, but aiden is starting to have performances so i knew i would eventually need a lens with more reach. havent got a lot of use with this one yet, but it takes some awesome photos.

in case you cant tell, i really like canon prime L lenses and gradually sold all my zoom lenses in exchange for these. i love the really wide apertures, especially since i rarely use flash. the images they produce are magical! you do lose the convenience of being able to quickly zoom in and out with primes, and changing lenses can get cumbersome, but the improved image quality over zooms is worth it for me. i just have to zoom with my feet! i think my kit is pretty much complete after the 135mm purchase, i dont forsee ever needing any other lenses.

if any camera nerds have any questions about any of these lenses, hit me up! see ya!
