out hotel was connected to a series of malls in siam square. the kids definitely appreciated the modern amenities... especially the air conditioning!

one of our favorite parts of our visit to bangkok was attending a thai cooking school. the kids love pretend cooking, so getting to cook real food was so awesome to them. we first visited a market to buy all of the necessary ingredients
ready to cook!
this cooking school did a really good job teaching, and were awesome with the kids. we made stir fry cashew chicken, spicy grilled beef salad, and pad thai in an omelette pouch. everything tasted really good too!
we didnt know what this place kidzania was, but decided to give it a try. it was probably one of the coolest, most realistic mini cities ive ever been to. i wish we had known how cool it was beforehand, otherwise we would have planned to spend an entire day here. but we got to do quite a bit in the few hours we had
so in kidzania, you are first given a check, which you cash at the bank to get cash. from there, you can do different activities... there are services which you have to pay for... or jobs where you earn money.
aiden and avas first job were gas station attendants. aiden wanted to drive, but before he could drive he had to go to the optometrist to get an eye exam, then go to the dmv for his driving test (which he failed, oh well)
ave in line to be an airline pilot for air asia, and aiden working as a construction worker
learning to make real sushi... we even got to eat it!
here they are tomato farmers... they had to pick the tomatoes, follow a map through town to deliver them to the ketchup factory, then of course get paid!

when in fire academy, the sirens go off and they all rush into a mini fire truck, then drive through town to put out a burning building... so cool!
medical training. each kid learns how to do one thing... take blood pressure, give oxygen, listen for heartbeat, etc... then they get in their ambulance and go off to find their "victim" in the street... then take turns performing the new skill they learned
she survived!!! everything was so detailed and realistic. we liked it so much, we were actually thinking about planning our next trip around where there was a kidzania haha. they are all over the world, but sadly not in the usa yet... but coming soon!
i made the 6am trip out alone to the damnoen sadauk floating market. as much as i wanted nanci and the kids to come, the trip was rough. i had to take a 1.5hr uber, fight to avoid a tourist trap, hike, and hop on back of a scooter taxi just to get there. getting back involved another scooter taxi, 1.5hr public bus, and another uber just to get home. i did my research before and knew what to look out for, and also read so many mixed reviews on this place but i thought it was very cool glimpse of what life was once like in bangkok

our final night we got to see a muy thai match... conveniently taking place at our hotel! we were iffy on letting the kids watch this, but its such an integral part of thai culture so we did anyway. it was very cool! the fighting was intense, and the live music added so much to the atmosphere.
as far as food, we mostly ate in the malls. the food courts in these malls are huge, with tons of delicious asian food. heres an example of a typical one
we did make it to the hello kitty house, kids had fun here... especially miss ava of course
